Lightroom 5 – What’s New?

Recently we saw a release of a brand new version of Lightroom – Lightroom 5.

There has been many posts about Lightroom 5 so I thought I would just post about new features in Lightroom 5, as many as I can fit  in here.

There are many new features and improvements in Lightroom 5, so I will just focus on as many as I can.

Let’s start with some of the biggest new features in Lightroom 5.

Spot Healing tool

Spot Healing tool is not new in Lightroom 5, but it has an amazing new feature in Lightroom 5 – the ability to paint in non-circular way when retouching (in the past it used to work as a circle only). In the past, if you want to do retouching / healing in a non-circular way, you would need to use Photoshop for that. But now, you can do it with Lightroom 5 quickly and easily.

And remember that because you’re doing it in Lightroom, it’s all non-destructive.

Upright

This is a totally new feature in Lightroom 5. Great for removing distortions in image, where you can straighten a tilted image with a single click. The new Uprightâ„¢ tool analyzes images and detects skewed horizontal and vertical lines, even straightening shots where the horizon is hidden.

Radial Gradient

Now in Lightroom 5, you can emphasize important parts of your image with more flexibility and control. The Radial Gradient tool lets you create off-center vignette effects, or multiple vignetted areas within a single image.

Smart Previews

Even when you don’t have access to your original images, now you can easily work with images without bringing your entire library with you. Just generate smaller stand-in files of your full-size images. Any adjustments or metadata additions you make to these files will automatically be applied to the originals.

This is a description of some of the new features in Lightroom 5. I will be creating video tutorials on these features within the next few weeks. Enjoy.
