Last week I posted about a test I did of different usb flash memories that I have to see which one would perform best.
For the test I used:
- iMac computer running Mac OS X
- iMac computer running Windows 7
- Dell Vostro V131 PC running Linux Kubuntu.
In addition to the usb flash drives i tested last week, I added one more drive. Last week I ordered a new drive – 64GB USB 3.0 flash drive from 7days.com. Here’s a link for you:
64GB USB 3.0 flash drive from 7days.com.
From the test I did last week, if you read my post, here’s the link for you:
Which USB Flash Drive is the fastest?
I got a lot of different results, but one thing was clear – which one was the winner.
The fastest usb flash drive in the test was, not surprisingly, the latest one – 32GB flash drive. It was 3x faster on a Mac and 2x faster on Windows, and amazingly much much faster on my Dell Vostro laptop! This was copying a lot of small files. When I tested copying one 700MB file, it was up to 4x faster than other usb flash drives! Absolutely amazing!
So, the best results I got from the 32GB USB flash drive were:
- copying a 150MB folder with 85 files inside: 1 second on Dell Vostro
now to compare, 64GB USB 3.0 flash drive:
- 0.5 seconds!
And then, this time copying one big file – 700MB file:
- 32GB drive – 22 sec.
and on 64GB USB 3.0 flash drive:
- 19 seconds.
So, the new USB 3.0 flash drive is the fastest in all the tests.
Amazing results and I feel sorry for Mac users who don’t have access to USB 3.0 on their computers…
